If I could recommend only a few books…
To communicate clearly and focus on one issue, I recommend Crucial Conversations by Kerry Patterson. This book focuses more on what goes on inside your head and how you respond to the other person.
To hold people accountable and have difficult conversations about repeated undesired behaviors, I recommend Crucial Confrontations by Kerry Patterson. This book focuses more on what the other person needs in order to accomplish the desired task or behavior.
To get organized and more importantly, to capture all your “stuff,” both mental and physical, in a trusted system so you can focus on being productive, I recommend Getting Things Done by David Allen.
To teach young children your values (that’s how I see the book, though that’s not how it’s titled) I recommend The Kazdin Method for Parenting the Defiant Child by Alan E. Kazdin.
If you want to put yourself through a coaching program without hiring a coach, I recommend The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Loehr. It echos many of my own coaching philosophies in a very accessible format.
